You are a wonder. In a world of 8 billion people, you have a unique story of joys and pains, and your own capacity to transform it into a life of meaning and goodness. Perhaps you also have wounds that still need healing, wounds that strip your potential to live your fullest life.

I am honored to hear your story. In therapy, we partner together to address the root of the problem, to help you heal from your wounds, to identify those pieces that hold you back from growth, and to live your most fulfilling life.

I am a Yale, UC San Diego, and UC Irvine trained psychiatrist located in San Diego, serving California and Connecticut. I also have a background in philosophy, theology and religious studies, and additional training in psychedelic assisted psychotherapy and psychoanalytic therapy. I have received fellowship awards from the American Psychoanalytic Association and American Psychiatric Association. I have additional interests in Asian American identity and shame dynamics, and religious trauma. I am fascinated by the big questions: meaning, freedom, isolation, death anxiety, God, the problem of pain, and the problem of guilt. Outside of my private practice, I am currently a staff psychiatrist and clinical researcher at VA San Diego Healthcare System and UCSD. I am trained in working with all mental disorders, but I specialize in working with depression, anxiety, attachment trauma/relationship/family of origin issues, religious trauma, and addictions (substance use and behavioral addictions).

My main modality is Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), a form of emotion-focused psychoanalytic treatment that gets at the root of internal emotional problems. Both long-term and short-term work have unique advantages: long-term work allows more time for a rich exploration, while short-term work helps us to hone in on a core focus which we can more rapidly address. I am here to help you heal from the roots of your problem as rapidly as you would want and feel ready for, so you don’t have to suffer any longer than you have to (or spend any more time and money than you need to!). If you’ve tried various other types of therapy by still have some core emotional relational difficulties no matter how much you’ve talked about them, perhaps this approach is for you.

I also do a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to evaluate for psychiatric and medical contributors to your difficulties, and can prescribe medications, evidence-based supplements or recommend other treatments as needed to augment the core psychotherapeutic treatment.
